Our History

1957 Began as the Tulsa Educational Memorial Trust Foundation (name changed soon after that).
OUR FOUNDING ORGANIZATIONS:
Tulsa Education Association, Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association, Tulsa City Parent-Teachers Association, Senior High Schools Principals' Association, Junior High Schools Principals' Association, Elementary Schools Principals' Association, Superintendent of Schools.
1969 IRS classified OEMTF as a tax-exempt organization {501(c) (3)}.
1970 - 2022 * Early scholarships were worth $50 to $100 each. Most scholarships were for only one year and awarded to 50 to 60 students each year from TPS.
* Scholarships are allocated among TPS high schools based on the relative size of the schools' graduating classes each year.
* Students in TPS-affiliated alternative schools became eligible for "at large" scholarships.
* By the early 2020s, some scholarships were increased to $2,000 and $2,500, still for just one year.
2022 Thanks to a most generous contribution, the Board voted to award 50 scholarships each year each worth $2,500 for 4 years of work in accredited colleges, universities, and training schools.
NOW Approaching our 70th anniversary, almost 4,000 Tulsa Public Schools students have received scholarships since 1957. We have awarded almost $4,000,000 in scholarships.
